A credit union is a nonprofit cooperative organization that offers banking and financial services often to a specific group.

However, MIDFLORIDA’s charter is community based which means you don’t need to work for a particular business to take advantage of our products and services. You need only to live, work, worship or attend school in any of the areas that we serve which includes Polk, Hardee, Highlands, Okeechobee and DeSoto Counties and the Poinciana area of Osceola County. Different than a bank, MIDFLORIDA serves to enrich its members rather than stockholders.

Why Are Credit Unions NCUA insured instead of insured by the FDIC?

The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) is the federal agency that charters and supervises federal credit unions and insures savings in federal and most state-chartered credit unions across the country through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), a federal fund backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government.
