13th Annual Gift of Reading

Throughout November, kindergarteners in MIDFLORIDA’s service area are in for a special treat!

The annual Gift of Reading program has officially entered its 13th year. As part of the program, members of MIDFLORIDA Credit Union’s staff, senior management team, and board of directors visit kindergarten classrooms in DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Okeechobee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, and St. Lucie counties. Volunteers not only read a book to the youngsters, but they provide each child with their very own copy of the book to take home. In addition, each school library and kindergarten classroom also receives a book.

An instant favorite

This year’s title, Alan’s Big, Scary Teeth, by Jarvis, was chosen by a Polk County School Board committee. This silly tale is full of important lessons about kindness, confidence, and overcoming obstacles with the help of friends—perfect for kids (and adults!) of all ages.
