MIDFLORIDA in the Community
From employee volunteers to corporate sponsorships, MIDFLORIDA is proud of its commitment to the communities we serve.
What is MIDFLORIDA doing to be green?
One of the most obvious ways that MIDFLORIDA can reduce our carbon footprint on the environment is with our building techniques. We start by working with architects accredited by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) to plan buildings that are as eco-friendly as possible while also being cost-effective. When possible, we reduce our waste by reusing existing buildings, in many cases in urban areas to protect greenfields and natural resources. We also conserve resources by using as much as 75% of existing walls, floors and roof. When building new branches from the ground up, we use numerous conservation and efficient technologies, such as stormwater control, water efficient landscaping, low flow water fixtures and high efficiency lighting systems. We use less energy by installing special roof designs, tinted windows and high insulation to reduce heat absorption and minimize cooling loads. We also install back-up generators that burn propane and natural gas which are cleaner fuels than diesel.
While we strive to be environmentally friendly, we also look to maximize the value of those efforts to our customers. We feel it’s important to choose a green program that makes the most economical sense for our company and therefore keeping our costs down for our customers.
You can take a step towards improving the environment as well by choosing to Bank Green with MIDFLORIDA. Now, when you finance a new or used vehicle with MIDFLORIDA and are a Green Checking customer, MIDFLORIDA will donate money to have trees planted on your behalf. Find out more…

Gift Of Reading Program
The Gift of Reading program is a two week long initiative to convey the importance, enjoyment and love of reading to more than 11,000 kindergarten students. Each year since 2006, volunteers from MIDFLORIDA visit every kindergarten class in Polk, Highlands, Hardee, DeSoto and Okeechobee counties and read a selected book to the class. At the conclusion of the reading, MIDFLORIDA gives each child their own copy of the book to enjoy at home. The Gift of Reading program illustrates our commitment to two important issues: the value of volunteering and the importance of developing reading skills at an early age.
Junior Achievement
One of the largest fundraising efforts MIDFLORIDA has annually is the Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon. The Bowl-A-Thon serves as one of the primary funding efforts for Junior Achievement which uses hands-on experiences to help young people understand the economics of life. The staff and members of MIDFLORIDA raise approximately $20,000 annually to help fund these on-going programs. As a business partner with Junior Achievement, the funds we raise and the volunteers we provide bring the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential.
Scholarships
Since beginning the MIDFLORIDA/Rebecca Keith Scholarship a few years ago, MIDFLORIDA has given more than $240,000 to students to fund college tuition. It is our belief that money invested into the youth is money well-invested in our communities. To learn more...
Extra Credit For Schools
Extra Credit For Schools began in 2005 and has taken off. Funds are raised for the school of the customer's choice by signing their MIDFLORIDA CheckPlus Debit Card up for a school. Each time a purchase is made with the card and the credit option selected, the school earns up to 10¢. The money is accrued and paid out each December. MIDFLORIDA anticipates paying more than $20,000 this year. Monies raised through this program can be used for any purpose the school feels is important. To learn more...
