MIDFLORIDA's Sixth Year of Giving "Gift of Reading"
For two weeks in November, MIDFLORIDA will send volunteers to over 100 local kindergarten classes to read to students.
As kindergarteners begin their first year of school, they can look forward to a special visit from MIDFLORIDA. Beginning in November, MIDFLORIDA will kick off its sixth annual Gift of Reading program, sending volunteers to all kindergarten classes in Polk, Highlands, Hardee, DeSoto and Okeechobee counties. Volunteers will read “Duck in the Truck,” by Jez Alborough, to every class and provide a copy of the book to all kindergarten teachers and students, as well as to each school’s media center.
MIDFLORIDA’s commitment to this program goes further than just footing the bill for 13,000 books. The credit union also provides the manpower that makes the Gift of Reading program a success each year. More than 50 volunteers are recruited from its staff, senior management team and board of directors to visit over 100 elementary schools in five counties of their service area.
