MIDFLORIDA in the Community

We take our tagline—your community credit union—to heart by sponsoring events and volunteering time throughout our service area. Check out some of what MIDFLORIDA is up to during the first quarter of 2020.

Tag—you’re it!

MIDFLORIDA proudly served as the Platinum Sponsor for the 5th Annual Kids Tag Art Pinellas, a program that allows fifth graders to design their very own front license plates. The plates are then sold to the public, with proceeds going back to the kids in the form of art supplies and field trips. The winners from each school were announced at a special ceremony earlier in January, where MIDFLORIDA proudly presented the Sponsor Choice Award. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone in the community who supports this program!

Everyone loves a parade

January has been chock-full of parades, and our staff has had a fabulous time seeing so many smiling faces in the crowds. Kids and parents alike enjoyed catching beads thrown off our float at The Gasparilla Children’s Parade on Saturday, January 18. Meanwhile in Lakeland, staff walked alongside our crowd-favorite steppers at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. parade, and yet another group of MIDFLORIDA team members walked in Winter Haven’s MLK parade. The following Monday, January 20, another team headed to Bartow to enjoy in their MLK celebrations.

A flippin’ good cause

MIDFLORIDA is once again serving as the title sponsor of Lakeland’s Flipping for Charities Pancake Breakfast, taking place at Joker Marchant Stadium on Saturday, February 8. All Lakeland-area branches are selling tickets leading up to the event, and we’re even giving away tickets through social media (follow us on Facebook for all the details!). Stop by the breezeway at the event to load up on MIDFLORIDA swag.

Fun at the fair

Just about anywhere you live within MIDFLORIDA’s service area, we’re sponsoring a fair or festival that’s just a short drive away! If you’re in South Central Florida, stop by the Hardee County Fair in Wauchula, taking place February 15 through 22. Keep an eye out for our custom photo booth where you can capture special memories from the event! Those of you in North Central Florida will have a blast at the Southeastern Youth Fair, taking place February 21 through 29 in Ocala. We’ll be on site with MIDFLORIDA swag and baseball caps for the kids.

If you live anywhere between St. Petersburg and Orlando, you won’t want to miss the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City, from February 27 to March 8. MIDFLORIDA sponsors FREE Kids Day on Saturday, February 29, where anyone high school-age or younger can enter the festival at no cost. Stop by our tent between February 29 and March 2 for your chance to win tickets to see Darci Lynn & Friends at the Festival!

A few good apples

MIDFLORIDA started as the Polk County Teachers Credit Union in 1954, and education has remained close to our hearts ever since. We’ve proudly supplied cash prizes to Teachers and School-Related Employees of the Year in Polk, DeSoto, Okeechobee, Indian River, Hardee, St. Lucie, and Highlands Counties. At the awards ceremonies, which take place throughout January and February, MIDFLORIDA is providing more than $50,000. Congratulations—and thank you!—to all the winners.
