Serving Port St. Lucie: One Thing Leads to Another

An empty beach surrounded by palm trees and sunshine on the treasure coast

MIDFLORIDA is pleased to now serve Port St. Lucie with three branches.  I was recently asked why we decided to make such a commitment to this area

As the title of this article states, one thing leads to another.  MIDFLORIDA is always seeking opportunities to serve our expanding membership base.  In 1999, we were granted the right to serve counties surrounding Polk and Highlands , and this led to us placing a branch in Okeechobee County to serve members who crossed over from Highlands County for either work or other activities.

Several years later, the President of Indian River County Credit Union approached me and asked if we would merge his credit union members with MIDFLORIDA’s membership.  We were pleased to do this and welcomed the populations of Vero Beach and Indian River to the geography that we serve.

It wasn’t long before Indian River and Okeechobee county members began asking for branches in St. Lucie County.  We heard from many members who worked, attended school, or shopped in St. Lucie County and wanted convenient branches in the county.

We responded to this request by opening up our first Port St. Lucie branch on Highway 1 near the St. Lucie Civic Center.  Our members thanked us for this branch but asked that we add more convenient locations in the St. Lucie West, Traditions, and Gatlin areas.  Again, we responded with two new branches: one on Gatlin Blvd. that opened earlier this year and our new flagship office on St. Lucie West that will open in April.

It didn’t take long for our new members to start asking for branches in Stuart and Palm City.  So we have acquired land in Stuart to serve these communities and will begin construction on this branch in late 2019.

In total, we will have six branches serving the Treasure Coast by the end of 2019.  This is an area that has not historically been effectively served by credit unions.  We are very excited about joining this community and bringing MIDFLORIDA’s great rates and high level of service and convenience to the Treasure Coast community.
