Mortgage Assistance Following Hurricane Irma

The entire community has been in our thoughts since Hurricane Irma struck Florida and we are here to help during this challenging time.

Unfortunately, many homes sustained damage from the storm. If yours is among them, follow the steps below to initiate repairs through your insurance company.

Step 1. Contact your homeowners and/or flood insurance carriers.

Every insurance company has different procedures for filing claims. Contact yours and follow the steps they provide. Be sure to find out when an adjuster should be visiting your property and when you can expect any claim checks.

Step 2. Register for Disaster Assistance.

In the event that you need resources not covered under your insurance policy, FEMA might be able to help. Visit www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call 800-621-FEMA (3362) to register for assistance.

Step 3. Contact our mortgage department.

Give us a call toll free at 855-915-4663 (9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday; 9am to 1pm, Saturday) and we’ll gladly walk you through the details of processing your claim check. Please let us know how you’ve been affected by the storm and be sure to provide an updated address if you’ve temporarily relocated. In addition to assisting with the claims process, we’ll look for other ways to help, such as offering flexible loan payment options. In an effort to provide any assistance we can, MIDFLORIDA will not assess late fees for the month of September on first mortgage loans serviced with the credit union. Depending on the type of loan you have, you could qualify for a repayment plan for up to 12 months or a loan modification.

Step 4. Start the repair process.

MIDFLORIDA will be named on the insurance claim check, which you’ll need to endorse and submit to the credit union. Then, we’ll give you the forms and information you need to move forward with repairing your home. Please note that we’ll likely request copies of the following items:

  • Insurance company adjuster’s worksheet
  • Signed proposal and contract with your home improvement contractor
  • The contractor’s license
