Mobile Payments

Secure and convenient ways to shop with your device.

Mobile payment options are secure ways to use your debit or credit card on your phone, tablet or other device. You can quickly complete transactions in stores, within apps or online without having your actual card in hand. The best part is that you can still enjoy the benefits and rewards of using your MIDFLORIDA debit or credit card when you add your card in these payment options.

How do mobile wallets work?

While all of these mobile wallets use tokenization, which is the security feature that helps prevent fraud, the main difference between these mobile wallets is that Google Pay and Apple Pay use Near field Communication (NFC) technology, and Samsung Pay uses Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST).

Near Field Communication (NFC)

In order to use NFC, both the device and the merchant's terminal must be equipped to communicate with each other, which is why you don't see this function available everywhere (though more and more merchants are adding this capability).

Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST)

This technology is currently exclusive to Samsung Pay. MST only requires that a terminal be able to accept debit and credit cards with a magnetic stripe, which means that theoretically, it's able to be used anywhere that allows you to swipe your debit or credit card.
