It’s finally the time of year that kids—and adults!—eagerly await. (And no, we’re not talking about the holiday season.) Every November, kindergartners throughout Central Florida receive new books courtesy of MIDFLORIDA Credit Union. The credit union also donates a book to each school’s media center and kindergarten teachers. To make matters even more exciting, MIDFLORIDA’s employee volunteers visit each kindergarten classroom to read students their new book.

The credit union is donating nearly 16,000 copies of this year’s book, The Runaway Egg by Katy Hudson. Chosen by the Polk County School Board, this hilarious tale teaches youngsters about responsibility and family. It’s also remarkably fun to read aloud and MIDFLORIDA’s volunteers are thrilled at the opportunity. The volunteers are made up of staff, senior management, and its board of directors, and will visit 139 schools over the course of the program.

Gift of Reading is one of many programs that helps MIDFLORIDA connect with its history and give back to the community. Initially called the Polk County Teachers Credit Union, MIDFLORIDA was founded in 1954 with just 10 members. Today, MIDFLORIDA has more than 265,000 members throughout Central Florida.
